Many you have seen the Synergy Underground site by now. As I wrote in the post announcing Synergy Underground prior to the conference, the goal for Synergy Underground was to give those of you unable to attend an inside view into the event. I have received many questions about how the concept came into being, how we did the live video, and how many video views the site has had since the site launch last week. I put together a presentation that answers these questions.

Several of my friends have given me a lot of well deserved grief over the live interviews I shot where you can hear me do a count down at the beginning. Yes, you can hear me say "two, one" in several of the videos. I did a countdown to help the interview subject prepare for the beginning of the live video. Some people were more than a little nervous about being broadcast live on Citrix.com (very understandably) so I thought a countdown was a good idea at the time. In my defense, most of the time when I hit the stream button on the N95 there was a couple seconds delay before the connection was established and the video began to stream. Obviously, that delay was inconsistent, so on some videos you do hear me count down. I have also heard about how many times I opened a video with "Okay". The interview subjects were not the only ones being broadcast live for the first time on the internet, the guy behind the camera was new at this as well. C'est la vie. I could have spent a lot of time editing that part out of all the videos I did and reposted them, but I decided to leave them as is, warts and all.

Despite the audible count downs, the intermittent data signals and the eternity it takes to upload videos to BrightCove, this project was a lot of fun and a big success in my opinion. I hope we get the opportunity to do this again.

I thought the videos were awesome. The one where gus walked out on the keynote stage was hilarious. There was a lot of great overview of some of the features I am not real familiar with, like easycall and smart auditor. That softphone interview and that white board on apollo were very cool too. I hope we can get more in depth videos on those.

I didnt get the whole twitter thing. I checked it yesterday and gus was talking about a birthday party and stardust???? What does that have to do with citrix? I cannot imagine the hospital I work for letting me post that kind of useless cr*p on our corp web site. Tech companies must be a heck of a lot more loose with their public image. There is a funny post about this on the dabcc site - http://www.dabcc.com/article.aspx?id=7817

It is a bit more harsh than I would be, but I have to agree. While the videos were great, twitters about breakfast and watching stardust on a citrix site just baffle me.

Hi. This is Gus here.

You're right, this information shouldn't be on the underground site. Sadly we forgot to remove the aggregation of twitters after the event was over. Just this morning I rectified that and now the updates section is showing appropriate content.

regards,
Gus

Barry, great job by you and the team filming and live streaming Synergy 2008. The videos provided a great behind-the-scenes look at Synergy and the live streaming made it feel like you were there. Moreover, the CTP interviews, the Citrix demos, and the partner demos were excellent. BTW, can you title your qik.com videos when you get the chance? Keep up the great work showing all the new technologies and highlighting the great work of the many talented Citrix teams. It's great to "see" more of Citrix and not just be "told" more about Citrix.

Thanks for the great feedback Bryon. I will work on naming the videos on the Qik.com site.

Hi Barry
Thanks for such an excellent summary.

Underground site will have lot more videos in next few days. I in process of uploading all the Geek Speak live videos on the underground site. Check back soon

Vishal

I appreciate all your help on this project Vishal. I just saw some of the new videos you uploaded to YouTube. I am looking forward to seeing more of the Flip camera videos from teh contest.
