As the New Year quickly approaches, we're all thinking of our New Year's resolutions, and I'm sure that on the top of each of your lists is "Improve the Capabilities of my Corporate Citrix Farm".
OK, maybe it's not at the TOP of your list...
But improving the reliability, scalability, and ease of use of your Citrix installations is an issue that most administrators face constantly. And, as the New Year is upon us, it might be a good time to reflect on that "one thing" that you can do to make your farm more productive, more secure, more reliable, and more manageable.
Along those same lines, I think it's a good time for Citrix to ask... What new products or enhancements would you like to see from us? What can WE do to make your job easier? What can we do to make your farm more secure? What can we do to provide you with the tools you need to make your Citrix installation perform in ways you have not been able to achieve?
Feel free to reply with your #1 ITEM (just one, make it your biggest) that you would like Citrix to focus on in the upcoming year. If it's a direction that we're already working towards, and you'd like us to continue, let us know! If there's an area that you think we should look at, we'd like to know that as well! Although I can't personally promise that your suggestion will work it's way to the top of our list, I think that your feedback, as always, is an integral part of our corporate direction, and helps us to plan for the future as well.
So, let the 2009 wishes begin!...

I cringe every time a thin client is introduced into a XenApp infrastructure. Since most thin clients don't support local printers, network printers are required on the XenApp server. Since the UPD does not work with network printers, regular printer drivers must be installed. If XenApp had a UPD for network printers, then I wouldn't care if thin clients were used in a XenApp infrastructure and we could eliminate all printer drivers for any printing scenarios.
There are third party products that provide this functionality but I am resistent to adding another management point (at an extra cost).

I love the UPD, since it makes an admin's life much easier, but if it comes to Mac, Linux, or Thin clients, most of the advantages are lost
A universal print server would help here really

- a XenCenter Linux compatible (web, java (like the old one) or else...)
- PCI passtrough for XenServer.

Now I have heard from all of your Sales reps and SE's that, "you hear us", with these complaints. However, there is little to NO progress on this problem. I really can not see any valid excuse other than you consider XenApp a mature product line and thus do not want to spend the resources to fix the problem.

Once user is found to be either connecting via LAN or WAN, enable or disable features such are ClearType, compression etc. Basically an understanding that in a lot of cases, Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop is used more for internal users than external. Enable a 'fatter' protocol for use internally and let the network, which in in most cases are 100 or 1000 Mb, take the strain.

When we are updating our vdisks, we need to copy the disk, install the updates, and enroll the disk to the several servers. copying a vdisk takes us about 15 minutes, enrollment about 5 minutes or so. Several of our customers use service windows, so it is quit common that multiple updates are deployed in one window.
How nice would it be, that we copy a vdisk, take it in private mode, install the first update, take a snapshot, install the second update, test, take another snapshot, and so on. This way, if something goes wrong, we could simply return to the state of the vdisk before update x. This reduces the time needed for copying the vdisk for every update.
If all updates are completed and tested, than we could merge all snapshots into one file, place that file (vdisk) in standard mode, and enroll that disk to the xenapp farm, or VDI farm.

technically , this should be piece of cake for citrix, as ddc dependency isnt really necessary.
