h3. Why use XenApp with mobile devices?

 \\

Citrix Receivers for mobile devices basically work exactly the same way that Citrix Receivers for desktops and laptops do, and you can leverage the same value proposition for mobile devices as you do with desktops and laptops with XenApp. Using mobile devices with the Citrix Receiver can help overcome some of the top concerns of IT staff when considering enhanced usage of mobile devices to access corporate data:
 * *Loss of Corporate Data* \- A key concern of IT security is how to protect corporate data on mobile devices. By using the Citrix Receiver on a mobile device, users can access all of the applications and data they have access to when using the laptop and desktop versions of the Citrix Receiver. Being the applications that access the data are running inside the data center, the actual data never needs to be stored on the mobile device. If the device is lost or stolen, the data is not lost, being it was never on the device to begin with.
 \\
 \\
 * *Addition Infrastucture Costs of Mobile Deployments* \- The Citrix Receiver for mobile devices uses the same Citrix XenApp infrastructure you already have set up for laptop and desktop users that access XenApp, thus no additional mobile centric infrastructure needs to be put in place. You can actually increase the ROI of you existing XenApp deployment by expanding it use with mobile devices.
 \\
 \\
 * *Cost of Mobilizing or Purchasing New Mobile Applications* \- With the Citrix Receiver for mobile devices and XenApp, you don't need to deploy mobile centric applications and solutions. You can deliver the same full X86 Windows applications that you deliver to laptops and desktops to mobile device platforms, as well as eliminate the additional infrastructure associated with custom mobile applications and their managment. The same management practices you already have in place around XenApp apply whether the user is using a mobile device or a desktop/laptop.
** Citrix promotes the development of x86 Windows based applications with it's customers and partners to leverage the cross platform benefits of deploying and delivering mobile applications via XenApp. Users continue to use a diverse range of mobile devices and standardize on a unified application delivery strategy that crosses multiple mobile platforms as well as multiple non-mobile platforms.

 h3. Understanding the Use Case

 \\

The use case is obviously a bit different when a full Windows application is delivered to a mobile device with a small screen than a laptop with a larger screen. Understanding the use case with mobile devices upfront can help you promote the use of mobile devices with XenApp. While the end user of the mobile device will have the ability to leverage the full functionality of the Windows application from their mobile device, they will most likely not want to produce a new PowerPoint presentation from their mobile device, but they may want to review a presentation, document or access data in their CRM or other database applications. The use case with mobile devices tends to be more about data consumption or to quickly reply to a workflow event, some examples below:
 * You want to quickly look up a customer's CRM information prior to a meeting and not have to boot up a laptop
 * You need to need the check the lastest pricing from and Excelspreadsheet on and internal file share
 * You need to refer to a design document to get a part number for a job you are working on
 * You need to review changes to a section of a Word document
 * You need to approve a request in your SAP system based on an email you just got on you mobile device

In a lot of cases, these types of review or approval events can easily be completed from the user's mobile device in less time than it takes to boot up most laptops. If the task to accomplish becomes to involved, or requires larger amounts of data production than the user is comfortable with on their mobile device, most will fall back to use of their laptop, but having the option to use a mobile device for the quick tasks as mentioned above can be a great productivity boost if their mobilde devices has been enabled with the Citrix Receiver to provide the same access to applications and data as their laptop.
