This is the first episode of the Citrix Delivery Center podcast. Vishal Ganeriwala and I interviewed Daniel Feller of Worldwide Consulting Solutions on the topic of deploying XenApp on XenServer. In part 1 of this topic, Dan talks about where, why and how XenServer and XenApp integration makes sense to deploy in your environment. Scalability will be covered in part 2.

Thanks to Jim West in Citrix Technical Support for voicing the Citrix Countdown and Steve Greenberg of Thinclient.net for the CTP Minute. A special thanks also goes out to Doug Brown for his podcasting advice and help.

Here are the documents Dan created regarding XenApp on XenServer -

Reference Architecture: Explains why a 100% physical architecture was reconfigured to include both physical and virtual systems and deciding factors of why XenServer is the best server virtualization solution for XenApp servers.

Implementation Guide: A step-by-step guide showing how to incorporate a XenApp Farm into a XenServer Platinum environment. Demonstrates how to create a golden XenApp image to be provisioned to any number of virtual machines.

Design Considerations: To meet the needs of the business, a solution like XenServer for XenApp must allow for design decisions. This article focuses on a few of the major considerations when integrating these solutions together.

Thanks for the feedback. I am glad you enjoyed the podcast.

I am working on the next one now. We will dive down into the scalability testing on XenApp on XenServer.

This rocks! Great job! I am impressed with the production quality and the music (and I love the intro announcers accent!)

I hope there are a lot more of these podcast. The more techncial the better.

Yes, she does have a sexy voice (can you say sexy on a corporate blog?)

I agree, this was well produced overall. A few volume issues here and there. The music and announcer are both excellent. Both the addon segments were a nice change of pace. The robot voice on the Citrix Countdown was pretty cool, and I like finding out about the most popular kb articles. Hearing Steve's opinion on his experience with XenApp on XenServer added credibility.

The hosts could loosen up a bit, but I guess that is expected for the first one ever.  The interview with Dan was very good. I would have liked more specifics and technical detail on some things though.

Is there a way we can set this up in iTunes?

Posted by Anonymous at Jul 27, 2008 20:36 | Reply To This

I have not yet submitted the podcast to iTunes. Based on the advice of other podcasters (like DOug Brown) and several podcasting experts (like Tee Morris, Mike Mennenga and Steve Eley) I plan to wait until I have completed 3-5 podcasts before submitting to iTunes. Apparently you have a much greater chance of being accepted for submission once you have several podcasts completed and posted.

I have submitted the RSS feed for the podcast to all the major RSS search engines, but not yet iTunes. You can of course import the mp3 into your iTunes library manually. If there is something I missed or you have more questions, please let me know.
