Citrix HDX Technology
On February 4, 2009, Citrix announced Citrix HDX, which includes a broad set of technologies designed to enable a high-definition user experience for virtual desktops and applications. HDX builds on existing technologies in products like XenDesktop and XenApp, extending them with new innovations for today's media-rich user environments. 
These technologies reside across the entire end-to-end delivery system. HDX in the datacenter leverages the processing power and scalability of servers to deliver advanced graphical and multimedia performance, regardless of the capabilities of the end point device. HDX on the network incorporates advanced optimization and acceleration capabilities such as the ICA virtual delivery protocol and other third party technologies to deliver a great user experience over any network, including high-latency, low-bandwidth environments. There are six categories of HDX technologies that work together in concert to provide the best experience for all user scenarios. Each of these six categories includes a broad range of new and existing technologies that extend throughout the Citrix Delivery Center™ product family.
- HDX MediaStream - Accelerates multi-media performance by sending the compressed stream to the end-point device and then processing it locally.
- HDX RealTime - Enhances real-time communications by using highly optimized encoding and streaming technologies.
- HDX 3D - Optimizes the display and performance of professional and desktop graphics by using software and hardware based rendering, both in the datacenter and on the end point device.
- HDX Plug-n-Play - Enables simple connectivity for USB, multi-monitor, printers and other peripheral devices.
- HDX Broadcast - Ensures reliable, high performance network connectivity to hosted virtual desktops and applications over any network, even with high latency and low bandwidth.
- HDX IntelliCache - Optimizes performance and network utilization for multiple users accessing virtual desktops and applications from branch offices by locally caching bandwidth- intensive data and graphics.
