Readme Web Interface SDK 5.0

Citrix Web Interface 5.0.1 SDK

Readme

Readme Version: 1.0

Contents

Overview

The Web Interface SDK is for administrators, webmasters, and developers who want to enhance the capabilities of Citrix Web Interface. Customizations range from visual modification of an installed copy of the Web Interface to building a custom solution directly using Web Interface SDK classes.

Before you start making customizations, ensure that you have read the latest version of the Web Interface Administrator's Guide, even if you are familiar with previous versions of the Web Interface.

If you have developed or used customizations with previous versions of the Web Interface, these customizations must be modified to work with the current version of the Web Interface. The amount of work needed to migrate customizations to this version varies according to the customization.

Finding Documentation

Documentation for the Web Interface SDK is included in the download. After extracting the contents of the ZIP file, open the Overview.html file. From this topic, you can navigate through the SDK documentation and follow the tutorials. You can also access the SDK documentation from the Index.html file.

Read_Me_First.html, which is included on the XenApp and XenDesktop installation media, contains links to the most up-to-date product documentation for XenApp/XenDesktop and their components, plus related technologies.

The Citrix Knowledge Center Web site, http://support.citrix.com, contains links to all product documentation, organized by product. Select the product you want to access and then click the Documentation tab on the product information page.

To provide feedback about the documentation, go to http://support.citrix.com/docfeedback/.

Web Interface Documentation

The Web Interface includes the following documentation:

  • The Web Interface Administrator's Guide is for Citrix administrators and webmasters responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining XenApp Web and XenApp Services sites. It provides a product overview and explains how to deploy and configure the Web Interface.
  • The Web Interface Readme contains important information, including details of known issues.

Licensing Documentation

To access licensing documentation, go to http://support.citrix.com/pages/licensing/. The documentation appears in the Top Licensing Resources section.

What's New in This Release

Site Names

The Web Interface sites have been renamed:

New site name (Web Interface 5.0) Previous site name (Web Interface 4.6 and earlier)
XenApp Web Access platform
XenApp Services Program Neighborhood Agent Services

Note that the current version of the Web Interface no longer supports Conferencing Manager Guest Attendee sites.

Support for XenDesktop

In addition to XenApp published applications and content, users can now access virtual desktops published with XenDesktop through the Web Interface.

New User Interface

The end-user interface has been redesigned to provide more functionality and an enhanced user experience. In addition, a low graphics version is introduced for users of hand-held devices and for integration with Access Gateway and third-party portals. XenApp Web sites make extensive use of cascading style sheets (CSS) to style the HTML.

Site Layout

The layout of the files and folders which comprise a Web Interface site has changed. The page logic of the Web Interface has been moved from Web page scripts to classes that are called by the Web pages. This allows a cleaner implementation of the page logic and the source code to be shared between the ASP.NET and JSP variants of the Web Interface.

Web Interface SDK API

Backward compatibility with the Web Interface 4.5 SDK API is maintained in this release. However, some APIs have been marked as deprecated and a small number of new APIs and extensions to existing APIs have been added.

Deprecated support for centrally configured sites

In the current version of the Web Interface, centralized configuration is deprecated and the creation of centrally configured sites is no longer supported, although you can still administer and upgrade existing sites.

Plugin Detection and Download Process

The Web Interface provides a plugin detection and download process that detects which plugins can be deployed within the users' environment and then guides them through the selection, installation, and configuration of an appropriate plugin.

Better Documentation for the JSP Variant

Most of the tutorials in the Web Interface SDK documentation provide instructions for both the ASP.NET and JSP variants of the Web Interface.
