GoldenGate Mobile Email - Technology Concept Release 4

Background

GoldenGate Mobile Email is an example application created with the XenApp 6.5 Mobile Application SDK. It illustrates to developers how a full featured, mobile-friendly user experience can be created with the Mobile Application SDK to integrate with an enterprise system like Microsoft Exchange.

The objective of GoldenGate is to share application development knowhow for creating Windows applications for enterprise systems (e.g. ERP, CRM, EMR, etc.) that are optimized for use on touch-based mobile devices and hosted on XenApp in the data center.

Introducing GoldenGate Mobile Email - TCR4

Citrix Labs is pleased to announce the availability of the GoldenGate Mobile Email Technology Concept Release 4 (TCR4).

GoldenGate is a secure email, contacts, and calendar application that executes on the Citrix XenApp 6.5 server infrastructure, integrates with Exchange via the Exchange Web Services APIs, and enables enterprise organizations to provide corporate email access.

The GoldenGate TCR 4 leverages enhancements to XenApp and Citrix Receiver to optimize the mobile user experience and provide rapid and secure connections / reconnections to XenApp hosted applications.

GoldenGate incorporates email, calendaring, and contact capabilities into a mobile-friendly Windows application that runs securely on XenApp in the data center and is delivered to any mobile device with Citrix Receiver. This ensures that corporate data will be both highly mobile and completely secure.

Another important benefit of GoldenGate-style mobile applications is that they can be developed once and delivered across multiple mobile platforms without the need to worry about platform compatibility or deployment concerns. In other words, with the Citrix Receiver, every mobile platform looks the same to an enterprise development team or administrator!

New in the GoldenGate TCR4 Release

The Citrix Labs team has worked hard to add some great improvements in this TCR4 release:

• Improved HTML rendering of messages.
• Attachment handling improvements.
• Keyboard handling improvements particularly on high latency connections.
• Stability enhancements

While the objective of this release is to serve as a full featured example of an application that can be built using the XenApp 6.5 Mobile Application SDK, we continue to assess customer interest and the market opportunity for GoldenGate Mobile Email via this Technology Concept Release. As yet, no decisions have been made around commercialization of this technology.
Please uninstall any previous versions of GoldenGate you may have, before installing the TCR4 release.

Works best with Receiver for Android 3.0

The enhanced feature XenApp and Receiver set is currently only available for Android devices. Support for Receiver for iOS and other mobile platforms are in the works.

To experiment with GoldenGate and Alcatraz, the Receiver for Android 3.0 is not required, but it will provide a significantly improved mobile Receiver experience such as:

• Auto keyboard popup for text entry fields.
• Dynamic session adjustment based on the mobile devices screen resolution and DPI.

The Receiver for Android 3.0 can be installed by visiting the Android Market from your device and searching for "Citrix".

The perfect combination - GoldenGate with Alcatraz Mobile PINPad

To really experience the power of how enterprise applications can be transformed into mobile-friendly apps and delivered to mobile devices in a secure way, we suggest that you also download and install Alcatraz Mobile PINPad, which provides the ability to lock the connection of applications delivered by XenApp to mobile devices after a period of inactivity by using a simple PIN keypad.
