Citrix Fast Launch Tool

Description:

The Citrix Fast Launch utility was designed for use with Citrix XenApp 4.5 and 5.0. It is intended to be used as a tool that expedites the application launch experience for end users using Citrix XenApp. The resulting benefit is a near instantaneous availability of the application when the user launches the application in XenApp.

Install & Setup:

The setup of this utility is fairly straight forward. You can publish the utility to your XenApp servers. Or, for PNAgent users, you can publish the utility to the user's startup folder, so that the utility starts automatically at login.

Important Note on the Fast Launch utility:

  • Since the utility checks out a XA license when the user logs in, it effectively converts a CCU based licensing model to a name user model as every end point will consume a license irrespective of any application launched. So, you may only want to use this for a certain users in the XenApp population.
  • When you smooth roam or your network connection gets interrupted, the fast launch session will go through a reconnect and might ask you for credentials, though you may not have running applications.
  • Bypasses the XenApp Load balancing logic – because the utility creates a session for the user already, the load balancing for users will not be effective. Again, for certain users and servers in your farm, that may not be an issue.

Is this like when users log in to the XenApp and the virus agent loads as well (from XenAPp)....then the user closes the app but still has a session open?

Or is it actually doing some number crunching and efficiently delivering the ICA traffic in some way?
