Citrix App Viewer

Citrix App Viewer is a specialized web browser optimized for publishing on XenApp to mobile devices. It wraps the Microsoft Internet Explorer engine in a more mobile friendly way.

It's useful when you would like to publish on XenApp a web based application to mobile devices.

Here are some benefits of publishing App Viewer for mobile devices vs publishing Internet Explorer:

  • More efficient use of small screen real estate. No address bar, title bar, tool bar etc.
  • Reduce many security warnings that are not necessary for your published web application.
  • More control over the look and behavior of the browser. The version here is an example. For example in this version, the scroll bars are hidden and IE context menu is disabled . You can create your own that fits your need when necessary.

Usage Examples

Here are some example web based application hosted in a published AppViewer.

Xcelsius Dashboard on iPhone (320x480)
Xcelsius Dashboard on Windows Mobile (480x800)

How to use App Viewer

App Viewer is implemented as a simple .net executable. No installation is required. Simply copy the exe to your XenApp server and run it. It only requires .net framework 2.0 and up to be installed.

App Viewer takes an URL as argument and will display the web page pointed to by this URL when it starts.

Publish App Viewer as you normally would.

Note:

AppViewer can run on both 64bit and 32 bit XenApp servers. It will always use 32 bit IE engine though.
