Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 on XenApp post installation script

AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 on Citrix XenApp Post Installation Script

Description

AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 from Autodesk is now Citrix-ready.  There are some additional post-installation configuration steps required when running on Citrix XenApp. This script automates such steps. This is a joint effort from Citrix and Autodesk.

The installation guide from joint Citrix Autodesk website here describes the steps required which may be helpful to understand the script. This page however contains most up to date script and instructions for applying the script. If you download the script from this page, please follow the updated instruction here.

For more information about AutoCAD Map 3D on XenApp, please visit the joint Citrix and Autodesk site.

Please leave your comment on this page if you have suggestions, issues, questions or any feedbacks. I'd love to hear from you and will try my best to answer your questions.

Deployment Instruction

  • Log-in as the user who performed Map3D installation either from the console or a published desktop
  • Verify Map 3D is running as expected.
  • Create a directory to save the template files. Make sure the other users, to whom you want to publish Map3D, have read access to this folder. The default location is c:\AutodeskTemplate.
  • If you choose a directory which is different from the default, update SaveAutoDeskTemplate.bat and ApplyAutoDeskTemplate.bat with the directory name you created.
  • Run SaveAutoDeskTemplate.bat
  • Log-in as other users, to whom you want to publish Map3D. Run ApplyAutoDeskTemplate.bat. The script will automatically check if the script has been run before by checking if  %userprofile%\application data\autodesk folder exists. If not, it will read saved data from the template directory you set up in the previous step and apply the necessary changes. Tips: You may consider running ApplyAutoDeskTemplate.bat script as part of your logon script so that this script can be invoked automatically for every user who logs into this machine.
  • By default a log file named AutoDeskForCitrix.log will be created in user profile directory of the user who runs either script. You can find more details about the execution of these two scripts in the log.

And to many others who helped with this project.

I also referenced the good document from St. Joseph's College,  Gregory Terrace Terrace Network Services. Although the document applies to AutoCAD2006 only and AutoCAD2006 is not Citrix Ready, I am encouraged by the enthusiasm by our users.

All of Autodesk's applications launch to the admin/installer's profile.  Instead of using a script, I modified the registry where all instances of Autodesk pointed to my profile, I change to point to C:\program files\Autodesk and it fixed all issues.
