Well we have been more than hinting about it for a while now but the new XenApp Online plug-in for Mac is here! I was so excited about this that I dusted off my old Mac and decided to give it a try.

Here are my first impressions. First, let's not overlook that the .ica file downloads and the annoying red-bouncing-dotted eye icon are gone - no where to be seen or to distract! These were two huge annoyances people grated about for a while - good riddance! Second, the Dazzle interface is actually quite nice. I don't have to go to a Web page to launch apps; I can just select the Windows apps that I care about (from those that have been published to me by IT here at Citrix) and place the icons on the dock, app folder or even in a "dazzle" folder on my dock. This allows for a very nice integration into the local app launch experience for the Mac.

This was my experience here at Citrix.

  • After installing the plug-in (which also installed Dazzle) I connected to our internal "Showcase" farm and was presented with a list of recommended apps.
  • I "added" the Office apps as well as SAP Enterprise Portal.
  • The animation pointed to the fact that the icons were going into my Dazzle folder which Dazzle placed in my Mac apps folder
  • Now I could launch these from here or from a Spotlight search list but what fun is that?
  • So I dragged the Dazzle folder to my dock and now I can launch my hosted Windows apps directly from there!
  • Finally to have that nicely integrated look for my most often used Windows apps I dragged the icons from Dazzle directly to my dock.

And that's that! A few quick and easy steps and now I have the Windows apps that I need integrated into my Mac and I can launch them just like I launch any other local app. Great job Mac and Dazzle teams! Looking forward to much more down the road!

Some folks have been saying that it would be cool to be able to launch apps directly from Dazzle. I have gone back and forth on that one and like the fact that you can place the icons just about anywhere and launch "natively". What do you think?

        Thank you,
I hope to Finally have a well put together company portal. I believe this improves the OSX experience in a very good way, and will be very useful. I'm also using RADIUS (OTP,tokens) with the CAG for remote laptops, & small offices. I still have some work to do, & haven't even loaded merchandising server, but can't wait!

Is there a specific place we should be going to for support with Dazzle and the new plug-in?

When we launch the Dazzle client and type in the address of our WI (HTTP or HTTPS) we're prompted for credentials and no matter what is entered the credentials are rejected.

I've reviewed all the documentation I can find and searched the forums but haven't found anything so far.

This sounds like it should be easily resolved, but may require some interactive troubleshooting. The best way to handle it may be to call support so they can walk you through a fix. If that doesn't do the trick, ping back here.

There's also a support forum on Dazzle for the Windows Tech Preview under way. I found a bug report related to password problems, but it was for a slightly different use case. I'm copying the instructions below that could help diagnose the issue. I've also posted this problem to that forum in case they might have some additional suggestions as well as the Mac online plug-in forum.

"The likely reasons for that error are that your credentials are invalid or else Dazzle can't reach configuration URL. a few of simple things to double check that you can reach the configuration URL from your client machine:

To reach the Edit Store dialog, do the following: Right-click the Receiver icon > Preferences > Advanced > Click the little arrow next to Citrix Dazzle > Configure Stores > Right-click the store name and select Edit"

Just downloaded Dazzle in Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro pre-unibody and it worked like a charm. Don't know if those people having login problems in Aug ever got it fixed as no one posted a followup comment lately, but there's 2 things that need to be entered for Dazzle to connect to the XenApp farm to work: 1) put in the url for your farm's web interface server. 2)the proper username format should be username@yourcompanydomain.com (your company email address). That's what worked for me. We are using XenApp 4.5 with the latest rollup packs up til Aug '09. Citrix Receiver for iPhone works great! Running it on a 3GS on v3.1 and there is virtually no lag on a WiFi connection.

Dazzle is a disaster for my brand new MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and our firm's authentication.  Our company requires that we enter a randomized access code in addition to our password.  Dazzle does not provide for this.  Also, the plug-in appears to read the citrix script as incoming data and tells me that it cannot find a suitable application.  Hours wasted!!!

Could somebody please let me know where I can find the previous version of the plug in? The citrix site only displays Dazzle.

    Thanks very much, Brian

Thank you Marcus.  I sent an email to you directly.  Our IT team spent a day with my Macbook and couldn't get it to run Citrix effectively.  We did try the "work around" described in the following post by Scott MacDonald of Citrix (http://forums.citrix.com/message.jspa?messageID=1404393).  However, the programs, particularly Outlook, once opened, hung up and stalled.

Currently the browser plug-in does not work with 64-bit Safari, we are working on a fix for this but until that is released the workaround is to launch Safari in 32bit mode.

To do this, find Safari in the applications folder and do a Get Info. There will be an "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox - ensure that this is checked. Restart Safari and web launches should work. Of course, this will affect Safari for all other browsing activities so performance may be slightly impacted.

    Hi all,

We are facing issue with XenApp Citrix online web plug-in version 11.0 installed on a Mac OS 10.6.1

When connected to the Citrix server and trying to open a published application, nothing appends.

When trying to open this application in a new tab, the following error is displayed "Published resource shortcuts are currently disabled".

When connecting to the same Citrix server, with the same user, from a XP SP3 workstation, everything works fine.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like they you might be trying to run the original Boa client on Safari in 64-bit. The one on the download site
should fix this. The shortcuts disabled message is a red herring (you always get that if you try and bookmark a page with apps).

I'm having authentication problems using Dazzle on Snow Leopard. Dazzle recognises the server address but cant authenticate. I've tried my username with and without the domain. I was really hoping this would be a mac native solution for me.

As it is I have to run windows in a virtual environment in order to use remote login via citrix as Safari and Firefox use the java client (rather than native plugin) which my organisation doesn't allow. Needless to say my organisation don't support macs so it's left to me to find me own solution.

Very frustrating - any options for a client side solution?
