It's still not official .... but the Tech Preview of the long awaited Citrix Receiver for the iPhone is now available in the AppStore.  Anyone with a properly configured Citrix XenApp  environment can download the Citrix Receiver and access authorized company apps from their iPhone today ! Now is the time to start testing the iPhone in your environment, look for ways to increase productivity, and have some fun.

There are some restrictions in this Tech Preview so be sure to check out the iPhone Community pages we have set up for requirements, tips and forum discussions. If you want to set up a separate test environment to test your apps over 3G we have a preconfigured XenApp Virtual Appliance in Amazon EC2 that you can copy and set up in 15 minutes.

As part of Citrix Receiver we are also providing a new feature called Doc Finder that runs on XenApp but provides an iPhone experience to allow users to easily find, view, edit and send documents. Because the Documents are hosted securely in the data center nothing is downloaded and Doc Finder provides fast one click access to all of your important files.

For more information, news, questions and suggestions go to;

From your iPhone, check out;

To get the real scoop on Citrix Receiver, talk to the experts, plus get some official news, I recommend you attend Citrix Synergy in May... and bring your iPhone... Learn more at www.CitrixSynergy.com

And finally, a big thanks and shout out to the Braeburn project team  .. Well Done !  ( actually .. they're not done ..  )

    Looks good, but it needs to support the builtin certificate store.

    I can access my server via Safari, and it doesn't complain about my Wildcard certificate from GoDaddy.

    The Citrix Receiver states "untrusted certificate".

    It is a good start but needs a just a little bit more.

    Nice app and a good presentaiton. Too bad the presentation was severly disturbed by the "blipp blopp" noises in the background.

    I've already been asked about whether or not Citrix is making a client for the iphone.  I've had to answer No, so far.  So thank you Citrix for working on this client, seems like a no brainer winning situation for your guys.  However, I would love to see some sort of feature timeline of things we will and won't see... I already am pre-committed to activities that conflict with Synergy, so no go there.  For example, when will or if the receiver support secure gateway?  Will the receiver support two-factor authentication such as RSA or SafeWord?

    Again, thanks Citrix for beginning the answer to the questions from my users!  I look forward to seeing the final product!  Great Work!!

      Thanks for the comments. As Chris noted above this release is a Tech Preview and so the feature set is limited. But I can assure you we fully understand that SSL and two factor authentication are critical features for the Receiver.

    A couple notes:

    • When it errors on connecting ("The address given did not provide a valid App list....", there is no back button visible.
    • Also, it goes straight to that screen, effectively disabling the app. I think I'll need to remove it completely from the iPhone and restore it to change the login info.
    • Somewhat unrelated, but you guys need to sort out your naming convention for your products. We use Citrix as a remote desktop tool, and our users can NEVER figure out what client software they need to download (heck, 1/2 the time _I_ can't figure it out either!). I mention this because even though we are running a citrix farm with all of the latest software, I am really unsure if our environment is compatable with the iPhone. XenApp? Citrix Receiver? Program Neighborhood? Presentation Server? XenApp vs XenApp Services? Narrow it down to two products: A Citrix Client that end users install, and Citrix Server software. The rest is all options and preferences.

      Hi Peter, thanks for the comments and I can answer to your questions a. and b. The first time you use the Receiver an authentication dialogue is presented and if you do need to change the values we provided an area in the general settings of the iPhone under "Citrix". You shouldn't need to reinstall the App to make any of these changes.

    I completely agree with Peter. Who needs all that marketing crap? Just have a client and a server, that's it!!!

    As to the iPhone app, a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT, at least for me, because it does not support PS 4.0. I was waiting for it for soooo long, and now can't even use without upgrading our servers. C'mon, Citrix, don't forget those still on 4.0!!!

    Does it give you an error message that it does not support MPS 4.0? Because I tried to enter our MPS's address in several kinds of ways: "www.citrix.xxx.com", "https://citrix.xxx.com", "citrix.xxx.com"

    It always gives me the message: "The address given did not provide..."

    No, I don't know our companies MPS's version yet.

    any Idea?

      Hi Anonymous,

      I need some clarification are you pointing to your PNAgent site or your WI site? If so what version of WI are you using to configure the PNAgent site.

      Connecting directly to the WI site is not support.

      you know, if you just keep blaming everything on people who supposedly can't read the admin guide, and you can't understand that there might be corporate policies that prevent using WI even on DMZ, then don't bother posting such negative replies and trying to sound all smart about it!

    As an administrator for a very large enterprise environment (U.S Army), not having a Citrix client for the iPhone is a true kick in nads. It would be great to have the ability to be able to log on remotely to do what ever administrative tasks that had to be done. Yes there are "other" RDP applications available in the App Store, but it would be preferred to have the ICA/XenApp. It's Murphy's law that when you get the call that something's wrong you're not at home or close to a PC to log in and take care of business. If the new iPhone holds true with having increased hardware performance, I can't imagine why they wouldn't want to take advantage of it and develop a client for it.

      Just to clarify, the iPhone Receiver DOES support ICA. You can download the app from the App Store and start testing today. The current Tech Preview does not support Access Gateway or 2 Factor yet , but stay tuned.

    I would also like to add my vote for PS 4.0 support. I am not the IT person in the company, and therefore am restricted to those programs supplied by the company. They won't upgrade just for me. Please support PS 4.0.

    OK, So I have downloaded the app and I able to view my XenApp Applications and I want to launch Word. No go. I try another app (after restarting my iPhone to free any memory problems) and I find I can not launch any apps. We are running the very latest XenApp server. I am running a first Gen iPhone. What may be causing these issues?

    Downloaded the application but a little dissappointed. I was hoping that the new Citrix Reciever would be the ICA Client for the iPhone.

    We have an existing Citrix infrastructure and an external facing Web Interface . secure gateway server which we use to allow our users remote access. I was hoping that the reciever would deliver the components to broker communication between my iPhone and our company web intterface / secure gateway setup.

    I can see where the reciever application is going in that it's been designed for more direct access to XenApp servers, perhaps within a hospital environment where phyisicians and doctors have iphones and a wireless setup.

    What are the chances of us getting a plain old ICA Client for the iPhone without the great features demonstrated in the video?
