Citrix Education just announced the rollout of its redesigned certification program. The new certification structure, developed in collaboration with Citrix customers, offers candidates more choices such as certification tracks by role and specialization, as well as streamlined update paths that make it easier for IT professionals to stay current. The certification changes support IT professionals' need to demonstrate specialized knowledge in key server, desktop and application virtualization technologies.

The next generation of Citrix certifications deliver:

1. Certification by job level
Three levels of IT professional certification are offered, which allow candidates to match their certification path to their job role:

  • Administrator Series - Consists of the Citrix Certified Administrator(CCA), which has been expanded to include tracks supporting Platinum product editions. Also offered is the new Citrix Certified Advanced Administrator(CCAA) certification, which takes the CCA one step further with in-depth product specialization.
  • Engineer Series - Consists of the new Citrix Certified Enterprise Engineer(CCEE), which offers seasoned IT professionals the opportunity to validate their ability to combine the coordination of operational planning efforts with 'tactical design' expertise and integration know-how.
  • Architect Series - Consists of a re-vamped Citrix Certified Integration Architect(CCIA) certification, which allows IT professionals to hone real world skills with a range of technologies to design strategic approaches to application and workload delivery.

2. Certification by solution
Various paths, including Application Virtualization, Desktop Virtualization, Server Virtualization and Application Networking, are available, so that IT professionals can align their certifications to the technology solutions most relevant to their job role.

3. Certification by product specialization
IT professionals can achieve specific designations for the latest Citrix products, such as Citrix XenApp™, Citrix® NetScaler®, Citrix XenDesktop™, Citrix XenServer™, and others, to prove their competency and skills on the latest enterprise products.

4. Simplified certification update paths
With the release of the next generation certification programs, update paths to the newest CCEE and CCIA certifications will be available for current advanced certification holders. These update paths will significantly reduce requirements by focusing on the domains, features and technologies that are most required to advance to the next generation CCEE and CCIA certifications.

If you already have a CCEA, you may start the update path to the CCEE for Application Virtualization. The update path includes exam A08 Advanced Administration for Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008 (to be available Nov '08) and additional requirements to be announced in H1 '09.

If you do not have a CCEA, you may start preparing for the CCEE for Application Virtualization by completing a CCA in XenApp (the primary product) and passing 2 additional exams in products included within the XenApp "line of sight" (the supporting products). Below are the exams you may complete now:

Primary Product (core) requirement: A05 Implementing Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008

Additional (supporting product) requirements (Pass 2 exams):

      •  Access Gateway: A04 or 309 or 308
      • EdgeSight: 800 or A07 (A07 available H1 '09)
      • Password Manager: 327
      • WANScaler: 740

The CCEE for Application Virtualization is currently in the planning stage. Further details, including the number of required exams, will be announced during Q1. Please continue to check www.citrixeducation.com > Certifications for the most updated information on certifications, including final requirements for the CCEE for Application Virtualization.

In the meantime, you can prepare for the CCEE by completing your CCA in XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2008. (Note, the CCEE for Application Virtualization is built on Windows Server 2008, thus making the CCA for XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2008 a requirement). To earn the CCA for XenApp 5, you must pass exam A05 Implementing Citrix XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008.

    Hi Keira,

I don't see any bundle of the elearning (like 1455CW in CCA 4). Does that mean there is no more elearning module required as part of CCA 5?

With the release of our next generation certifications, Citrix no longer requires Self-paced Online course CTX-1455CW Citrix Common Management Platform 4.5: Administration.

For individuals in progress on v4 certifications for XA, PM or AG; or those who require being dually certified in v4 and v5 on XA, the 1455 Self-paced Online requirement still stands. Once v4 certifications are phased out and replaced with our next generation curriculum, the 1455 course will be discontinued.

When Citrix released the 4.x certifications, our goal was to build a program that ensured all students attending an instructor-led class came into class with baseline knowledge; thereby creating a better experience for the student and instructor. To meet this goal, we developed a Common Management Platform course (1455) that was intended to be a prerequisite for several Administrator level courses (such as XenApp, Password Manager, and Access Gateway).

With our next generation of certifications, all relevant content will now be addressed in each specific course and exam; thus making the 1455 Common Management Platform course unnecessary for CCA 5 certification. Thank you.
