AppExpertTemplates

NetScaler AppExpert Templates simplifies deploying NetScaler for specific applications by encapsulating everything about a NetScaler configuration that is specific to a given application.

Captured within an AppExpert Template are:

  1. The application components (e.g., pages, files, archives, Web Services) that NetScaler will optimize.
  2. The traffic management entities (e.g., VServers/VIPs and associated load-balancing algorithms, SSL offload settings) for these application components.
  3. The specific NetScaler policies for caching, compression, rewrite and other NetScaler functionality used to optimize the application.

Templates present a consolidated view of everything NetScaler is doing for a given application to NetScaler administrators, further simplifying management. From one place, NetScaler administrators can manage, maintain and change the NetScaler configuration for the application. And, this same view provides a framework for NetScaler administrators and their peers in the application groups to work together as existing applications evolve and as new applications are brought online.

AppExpert Templates are designed to be imported and exported, so the benefits of NetScaler for specific applications can be gained within minutes. Import/Export also makes it easy to share application-specific configuration within an organization as well as between organizations.

Is there a good guide how to create a Template?

Otherwise I'm looking forward to see a AppExpert Template for IBM Lotus Domino in the near future.

The procedure for creating a template is pretty straight-forward, and can be done using any of the deployment guides that are already developed, just tailored to IBM Lotus Domino, until such time as we get around to defining one.

I'm running  NS 9.0 Build 66.12.  Also, after using the AppTemplate I didn't have an Vservers setup under my load balancing node.  Is this common?

Are the templates versioned or can the templates be used with other versions than NS9.0b65GA?
If it is the first then when can we expect updated templates?
If it is the latter maybe you want to rename the templates to make it more obvious.
    Thanks!

        Hi Craig,

Do you have an ETA when the updated templates will be available? NS9.0b65 has been retracted by Citrix due to a critical bug. This means, as the templates are versioned, that there are no AppExpert templates available for a Citrix supported NetScaler release.

Is it possible to release AppExpert template files in the same manner as the NetScaler documentation files? Bundle the supported AppExpert templates in a tarball that matches the NetScaler build and is automatically installed if detected in the installation directory.

        Thanks!!
