Description

The PerformanceCounterTest is a harness to check perfmon counter values. You specify the following:

  • Category
  • Counter
  • Instance (optional)
  • Threshold value
  • Whether it is the MIN or MAX allowable value

The test checks the current value of the specified perfmon counter and compares it against the input threshold value. If the current value is outside of the threshold value, the test returns the value 44.

How to Use PerformanceCounterTest

1. On the server to be checked, open a command prompt.

2. Navigate to the directory containing PerformanceCounterTest and type:

  \>PerformanceCounterTest /category:< category name>/counter:<counter name>[/instance:< instance name >] /threshold:-(+/-)<threshold value>
 

3. To get the perfmon counter information for your system, open Administrative tools > Perfomance and click Add Counters. Otherwise, these values are stored in the registry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\009\Counters
