Front-end
The Front-end of a datacenter architecture refers to hardware, an appliance or virtual machine that sits in front of a Server Farm or bank of servers. Because the device sits in front of the server farm and between Client and Server traffic, it is referred to as the Front-end. The Citrix NetScaler is widely used as a Front-end device.
