Delivering Windows Apps to an iPhone

Open Cloud with XenApp for iPhones

Technical Overview

This blueprint documents how to deliver Windows applications and documents to the iPhone.for demonstration and evaluation purposes. Citrix XenApp is provided in an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) running in Amazon EC2. Links and instructions are also provided for Citrix Recever for iPhone and Citrix Doc Finder. Customers and prospects will gain experience from the ability to rapidly evaluate application usability for use with the iPhone.

You can use this demo server to test pre-configured installed applications. To do this, point your browser to the public IP of your instance. Log in with the local administrator username and password or one of the test user accounts created.

See "Getting Started in AWS" and the video on enabling Citrix Receiver connection on XenApp .

Install the the Citrix Receiver for iPhone on your client device.

Use the Administrator's Guides on the Citrix Knowledge Base located at support.citrix.com for step by step setup instructions.

Locating and Starting Citrix AMI's:

The Citrix AMI's can be located in the Amazon Console (http://console.aws.amazon.com) by navigating to "AMIs" Enter "Citrix" in the Viewing field. The Citrix Open Cloud images will be listed. You can launch any of them by performing a right-click and selecting "Launch Instance of this AMI."

Optional Citrix Configurations

There are two Web Interface sites created on this server. One Access Platform site and one XenApp Services site.

The following applications are published on the XenApp server:

Installed Applications: Wordpad, Internet Explorer, Desktop

Citrix Doc Finder is another great application and a great addition for iPhone users. It allows easy access to documents stored in the users home folder. Citrix Doc Finder is a feature of Citrix Recever for iPhone that makes it easy for users to find and open the Enterprise docs they need from their mobile device.

Application Resolution

To optimize the experience for the iPhone display, Citrix recommends publishing Doc Finder to 480x800(or use the -i option in the file location dialogue), so the Doc Finder UI fits the iPhone screen. Other applications we recommend publishing the applications at 720 x 1080. This will render the application clarity to accommodate the iPhone screen size and resolution. In most cases the user can zoom and pinch to their desired magnification level. It is suggested to experiment for different applications to achieve optimal user experience.
