So I was thinking a demonstration of XenApp desktop integration might be in order. "Citrix Applications" formerly known as "Program Neighborhood Agent" allows you to deliver Citrix applications seamlessly to the Windows Start Menu, Desktop, Quick Launch bar, Sidebar and the Windows Notification Area (AKA The Systray). Virtually everywhere you can place a Windows shortcut you can place a Citrix delivered app shortcut. Check it out ...

These were created on my Vista desktop but this all works equally well in Windows XP with the exception of the Sidebar which isn't available. The important take away is that users can interact with Citrix delivered apps in the same way they do with local apps.

Our Motto - "If we do this right users wont know we've done anything at all."

Are these applications locally installed on XenApp in this demo? It seems they are not streamed to the desktop.

Some of the apps are virtualized on the Server while others are virtualized on the client. If you look down in the right hand corner you can see the client side virtualized app launch indicator. I believe that one was OneNote.

Vista VPN Client ???

Is that a question ? Are you asking about whether or not we have a Vista client for the Citrix Access Gateway ?

I noticed that the hint text for the application links say something like, "Program Neighborhood Agent link". If the purpose is to get rid of irrelevant names, then that would be a good one to do away with!

Cool demo by the way

I probably should have noted that I'm using an early build of the 11.0 XenApp client. We are still working through the transition away from PNA. When we ship later on this year we intend to have all of the strings changed. Thanks for paying that close attention

No. No. Thank you for taking the blog so far off topic.

Applications being streamed or run remotely - is that determined before hand, or dynamically when the app is ran?

Whether an application is published using Server side App Virtualization (Publishing) or Client side App Virtualization (Streaming) is determined by the administrator when the app is published. The admin can publish the same app using both methods creating two separate icons allowing the user to choose the method or the system can display one icon that, when chosen, will launch the appropriate method depending on system preference.

I have never seen my "XenApp" published applications launched so quickly in my environment.

An Apple 2.0 reader points out that remote access to Windows machines has been available for the iPhone since August from programs like WinAdmin and Remote Desktop. What makes Citrix's app different?
